CWC 2023: Arjuna Ranatunga blames Jay Shah

Arjuna Ranatunga blames Jay Shah the BCCI secretory for the Sri Lanka cricket team’s poor performance in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. Arjuna Ranatunga is the captain of the 1996 World Cup-winning team of Sri Lanka. Currently, he is in politics. He accused BCCI and Jay Shah of the team’s bad performance. Jay Shah is the son of Amit Shah the format Home minister of India.

India will play to New Zealand in the first semifinals of Cricket World Cup 2023. South Africa will face Australia in the 2nd semifinals.

Sri Lanka Performance at CWC 2023

Sri Lanka performed badly in the Cricket World Cup 2023. They finished at number 9 in the points table and out of the World Cup 2023. They have won only two matches, one is against the Netherlands and one is against England. They are bundled out on 55 against India. In the finals of Asia Cup 2023 against India, they are bundled on 50 runs. Sri Lanka is expected to perform well on the subcontinent pitches, particularly in India. They won the World Cup in 1996 in India and beat India in the semifinals.

Recently ICC suspended the Sri Lankan Cricket Board for involvement by politicians.

What Arjuna Ranatunga said

After the suspension and exit of the Sri Lanka Cricket team from the World Cup, the former captain Ranatunga said ” One man from India is ruining the Sri Lanka Cricket, that is Jay Shah. He is powerful only because of his father.

The statement of Arjuna Ranatunga is clearly politically motivated. As we already know Sri Lanka as a country is going through a bad patch. Most of the Sri Lankan cricketers are young and have less international experience.
